Start at the Jefferson Historical Museum in the 1888 federal courthouse and post office (223 W. Austin St). Then tour Jay Gould's private railcar, the Atalanta, across from the 1850s Excelsior House Hotel; tours are by appointment.
Walk down to the Steamboat Turning Basin, take a Turning Basin riverboat tour on Big Cypress Bayou, and come back after dark to see the illuminated Howe Truss bridge. Caddo Lake State Park is a short drive east of Jefferson, and about 18 miles from us.
